## Converting CBZ to EPUB with Calibre

Calibre is a versatile, open-source ebook manager that can handle a wide variety of formats, including the conversion you need.

#### Step 1: Download and Install Calibre

First things first, you’ll need to get Calibre on your Mac.

  1. Visit the Calibre website: Open your web browser and go to the official Calibre download page: calibre-ebook.com/download_osx.
  2. Download the application: Click the download link for macOS. The website should automatically detect your operating system.
  3. Install Calibre: Once the download is complete, open the .dmg file from your Downloads folder. A new window will appear. Simply drag the Calibre icon into your Applications folder as instructed.

#### Step 2: Add Your CBZ File to Calibre

Now that you have Calibre installed, you need to add the comic book file you want to convert.

  1. Launch Calibre: Open Calibre from your Applications folder.
  2. Add your book: You can either drag and drop your CBZ file directly into the Calibre window or click the “Add books” button in the top-left corner and select your file from there. Your CBZ file will now appear in the main Calibre library list.

#### Step 3: Convert the File

With your book added, you’re ready to convert it.

  1. Select the book: Click on the CBZ file you just added to highlight it.
  2. Open the conversion tool: Click the “Convert books” button in the top toolbar. A new window will open with a multitude of conversion options.
  3. Choose the output format: In the top-right corner of the conversion window, you’ll see a dropdown menu for the “Output format.” Make sure to select EPUB from this list.
  4. (Optional) Adjust settings: For most CBZ to EPUB conversions, the default settings work perfectly fine. However, you can explore the various tabs on the left (like “Page Setup,” “Comic Input,” etc.) if you want to customize the output. For example, in “Comic Input,” you can choose not to convert to black and white if you want to preserve color.
  5. Start the conversion: Once you’re ready, click the “OK” button at the bottom-right of the window.

#### Step 4: Access Your New EPUB File

Calibre will work its magic, and you’ll see a “Jobs” indicator spinning in the bottom-right corner of the main window.

  1. Wait for the job to finish: The conversion is usually very quick. Once it’s done, the “Jobs” counter will return to 0.
  2. Find your EPUB: Select your book in the Calibre library again. In the details panel on the right, you will now see “Formats: CBZ, EPUB.” Click on EPUB to open the file in your default ebook reader (like Apple Books).
  3. Save to disk: If you want to save the EPUB file to a specific folder, right-click on the EPUB format link and choose “Save the EPUB format to disk.”

And that’s it! You have successfully converted your CBZ file to EPUB on your Mac. You can now transfer this new EPUB file to any compatible e-reader or enjoy it in the Apple Books app. 📚
